THE NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF August 13, 2007...
Provincial’s time
Fr. Tom Cassidy starts the week in Cleveland, where he is attending the CMSM (Conference of Major Superiors of Men) national meeting. From there, he goes to Montréal, where he will attend the Canadian Region’s annual gathering. During the Regional Days, Brian Tompkins will profess his first vows. Brian was a novice with Brs. Clay Diaz and Long Nguyen during the past academic year.

Notre Dame tickets
Sacred Heart Monastery has acquired 28 tickets for this season’s Notre Dame football games. Fr. Bernie Rosinski notes that the tickets have become increasingly difficult to obtain and rather expensive. To help defray costs to the community, Fr. Bernie asks those who use the tickets to consider giving a donation toward the seasonal purchase.

If you would like to use a ticket, please contact Fr. Bernie at brosinski@shst.edu or by phone at 414-425-8300, ext. 6302. The tickets will be distributed to SCJs on a first-come, first served basis. Fr. Bernie reminds SCJs to contact him soon since there may be more SCJs interested in tickets than there are tickets available for distribution.

SD update
Fr. Anthony Kluckman sent an e-mail from South Dakota, where he was visiting, and helping out with ministry in Lower Brule. He says that he had a chance to “visit Eagle Butte to see the old gang up there. I am happy to report they are doing well. The big news is that they have paved the dirt road that ran next to the rectory. It really cuts down on dust and dirt getting into the house. They have been waiting years to get it done, but it is finally accomplished… I also visited Fr. Tom Westhoven in Pierre and it was good to see that he is doing better.” Fr. Anthony reminds SCJs to continue to keep Fr. Tom in their prayers.

Please remember…
Peter Joseph Hausmann, the cousin of Sr. Bernadette Engelhaupt. Sr. Bernadette is the resident pastoral administrator at St. Mary Mission in Iuka, Miss. (Sacred Heart Southern Missions). Her cousin, Mr. Hausman, was one of the victims recovered from the Minneapolis bridge collapse. Peter Hausmann, 47, was a computer-security specialist and a former missionary who had worked in Kenya. He and his wife, Helen, had four children.

Fr. Joseph Gole, who is at St. Francis Hospital with what appears to be a fractured hip. Fr. Gole is an honorary SCJ who resides at Sacred Heart Monastery.

Reminder
If you would like to receive a photo of the provincial superior (Fr. Tom Cassidy) for your house or office, please contact Mary Gorski to indicate how many and what size (generally 5x7 or 8x10).
You can reach Mary at 414-427-4266 or by e-mail at marygorski@sbcglobal.net.

Historical resources
The Priests of the Sacred Heart now have a repository entry within Marquette University’s online guide to Native Catholic records. Marquette has worked to develop a warehouse of information on the Catholic Church and Native Americans in the United States. Entries regarding the SCJs focus on the community’s work in South Dakota.

If you would like to review the records go to http://www.marquette.edu/library/collections/archives/NativeGuide/Mguide-intro-SD.html. This will bring you to the section on South Dakota. You can also browse the index using the congregation’s name, or a ministry location.

Marquette staff have done their best to make sure all records are accurate. If you have a question about one of their entries, they encourage you to contact them. You can use one of the general links on the site to communicate with a library or archives staff member.

Mission intention
The pope’s mission intention for August: that the Church in China may grow in unity and show its communion with the Holy Father
