THE NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF June 25, 2007...
Provincial’s time
Fr. MacDonald and Fr. Bernie Rosinski will head to Mississippi later this week for the ordination of Frater Mark Mastin to the diaconate.

Confirmation
On June 19, the Provincialate received confirmation of the provincial elections from Fr. General. The newly elected provincial superior and council have been approved to begin their three-year term as of August 1.

Election Feedback
It has been a few weeks since the Province Election Assembly. Now that SCJs have had time to reflect on it, Frs. MacDonald and Cassidy invite the membership to give feedback on the election process. Are there issues that you believe should be addressed before the next elections? Were there parts of the process that you especially liked or disliked? Do you have suggestions for the next election?

Both Frs. Cassidy and MacDonald would like to hear your thoughts regarding not only the assembly, but the entire election process. Please put your feedback in writing, either by conventional mail or by e-mail.

You can e-mail your responses to Fr. MacDonald at: provsup@poshusa.org, or Fr. Cassidy at: tcassidy@shst.edu. Or, you can send a letter to either at the Provincialate Offices, P.O. Box 289, Hales Corners, WI 53130-0289. Thank you!

On the way
Fr. Charles Bisgrove left Milwaukee last week with a send-off from the local fire department (where he was a chaplain). On Friday, June 22, Fr. Charlie and Fr. Zbigniew Morawiec (Polish Province) were honored at a mission-sending ceremony at the Generalate. Fr. José Ornelas Carvalho, general superior, was the presider at the vespers service.

Both SCJs are headed for India. Fr. Charlie left the day after the ceremony, and Fr. Zbigniew leaves on June 30.

On a sad note, we learned shortly after Fr. Charlie left that his mother, Margaret Bisgrove, is seriously ill following complications from heart surgery. Please keep her in prayer.

Please remember…
Daniel Pujdak, the 23-year-old nephew and godson of Fr. Steve Pujdak. Daniel was a firefighter in New York and died last week while fighting a blaze. Condolences can be sent to his parents, Leo and Chris Pujdak, at 225 Monitor St., Brooklyn, NY 11222. Fr. Steve is a member of the Pinellas Park community.

St. Joe’s in the news
St. Joseph’s Retreat Center was featured in the June 16th edition of the Door County Advocate. You can download the article, which includes information about the center’s upcoming programs, by clicking HERE.

Please note that there are a few corrections to the article. Karen Powers will not be assisting with the June 13-15 workshop because she is recovering from hip replacement surgery. The fee for that workshop has been reduced to $135, and commuters are welcome at $50 for the weekend.

Also, the Principals and Teachers Retreats, scheduled for July 22-28, are actually two, separate retreats. The principals’ tract will be lead by Ester Hicks of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

For more information about St. Joseph’s, go to its website at: www.stjosephretreat.org.

Summer break
The Fridge Notes will take its annual summer break next week. There will be no Fridge Notes published on July 2. The next issue will be July 9.

Missing coat
Fr. Larry Rucker seems to have picked up the wrong suit coat following the feast-day Mass at Sacred Heart Monastery, June 15. The one that he has fits him, but he knows it’s not the one with which he started the day. If you were at the Mass, take a close look at the suit coat that you brought home. If you think you might have the wrong one, give Fr. Larry a call at Villa Maria.

Best wishes!
Best wishes to Frater Mark Mastin, who will be ordained to the diaconate on June 30.
