| THE NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF October 8, 2007... | ||
| Provincial’s time Fr. Tom Cassidy will be in Pinellas Park this week for a visitation following a regional CMSM meeting. Next week, he has council meetings Monday and Tuesday, and then a visitation with the monastery community. Please remember… Sr. Renee Gregoire, OSB, who died September 18 in Yankton, S.D. She was 100 years old. Sister had ministered at St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D. and at Sacred Heart Monastery in Hales Corners, Wis. Formation “Today, it makes me wonder what actually pushed me to contact the Priests of Sacred Heart, attend the Come and See Weekend, and finally fill out the application,” wrote third-year candidate Son Ho, a member of the Dehon Formation Community in Chicago. “And what has kept me with Priests of the Sacred Heart to this day? I must conclude that it was God who called me, and it was I who answered, and it is through God’s grace that I am still answering that call and discovering the path of religious life.” Son’s reflection is a part of his autobiography, written for the annual formation flyer for the U.S. Province. In it, each of the 12 men in formation candidates and professed introduce themselves to the community in their own words. This year, the formation team (Fr. John Czyzynski, Br. Duane Lemke and Fr. Vien Nguyen) also wrote a few paragraphs about themselves. Besides the autobiographies, the flyer also includes photos of each of the men in formation. The six-page flyer is being sent today (October 8) to SCJs in North America via e-mail as a PDF document. It is also available for downloadby clicking HERE. If you prefer a hard copy, please contact Mary Gorski at 414-427-4266 or by e-mail at: marygorski@sbcglobal.net. On display Sacred Heart School of Theology staff member Jo Calcagnino has had her mixed-media piece, Justice and Peace Jesus, accepted into a nationally juried show, “Body of Christ,” sponsored by the Washington Theological Consor-tium, in Washington D.C. Her piece will be displayed at Washington Theological Union from October 22 until December 15. An online gallery of all accepted works will be available at www.washtheocon.org/bodyofchrist. Updates The Province of South Brazil has a few new e-mail addresses: Provincial Superior: provincialbum@onda.com.br Provincial Secretary: secretariabm@onda.com.br Also, please note that Br. Mike Fette is now settled at Lebh Shomea Houseof Prayer, P.O. Box 9, La Parra, Sarita, TX 78385; phone 361-294-5369. He will be there until February. Mistaken identity During a recent vacation with his family in Italy, Fr. John Klingler made an unanticipated visit to a Naples police station. Questioned by a variety of agencies, Fr. John eventually learned that police thought that he was Whitey Bulger, one of Boston’s most notorious gangsters. Among the crimes Bulger is wanted for: murder, racketeering, extortion and money-laundering. He is on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted” list. It took almost eight hours for authorities to ascertain Fr. John’s real identity and return him and his family to the SCJs’ community house. Misery loves company, so if it is any consolation, Fr. John was one of several Americans detained recently by Italian authorities who mistakenly thought they had Whitey Bulger. A couple from Boston had their ordeal documented in the Boston Globe, which noted that a man from Rhode Island had also been detained because of his resemblance to the fugitive gangster. Thank you Sr. Margaret Cunniffe, the sister of Fr. Jim Cunniffe, recently wrote with her family’s thanks for the SCJs’ support following the death of Fr. Jim: “We are very grateful for your warm welcome and hospitality at Sacred Heart Monastery. The presence of so many friends, priests and brothers was a wonderful support to us. The sung vespers and remembrances made happy memories and reminded us of many moments. “The next day we went to the chapel for the funeral liturgy feeling sad, but the sight of the procession of clergy lifted us up. “Even in the dining room, we met more of James’ confreres and they all spent time with us. Please convey our deepest thanks to the province members for their outreach to us. We can never thank you sufficiently for helping us through such a sad time.” Happy holiday! Happy Thanksgiving to our SCJs north of the border, and happy Columbus Day and Native American Day to those in the States! |
