They come back not only to a new semester but to a new president-rector. Fr. Jan de Jong took over the job January 1. His installation ceremony will be on Wednesday, January 30. Originally from the Netherlands, Fr. Jan came to the United States to teach at SHST in 1969. Other ministries, including serving as a CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) supervisor and as novice master, took him away from the seminary for many years. “I was very happy to return to Sacred Heart in 1999; I feel like it is my ‘first love.’” “I am deeply motivated by Fr. Dehon’s vision of priesthood,” continued Fr. Jan. “He was very concerned about the quality of priests, that they be zealous and virtuous. He gave his life to this work. The preparation of priests was a top priority for him. Our work at SHST fits in beautifully with his vision. It is very Dehonian.” As president-rector, Fr. Jan will continue to teach a class in medical moral ethics. Available Fr. Charles Yost writes that “We have a four-volume set of the Liturgy of the Hours in Latin. It is in new condition, with covers, and available to anyone who would like to have it. It belonged to Fr. Sylvester Benedict.” If you are interested, contact Fr Charles Yost at: ceyost@tampabay.rr.com or call him at the Sacred Heart Community in Pinellas Park community. Off to sea On January 13, Fr.
